Sonat

Dandy

Bleck

Gärsnäs New Designs 2017 improve, renew, supplement and complement the collection in ways that create variation and possibilities. Inspired by the core values of Gärsnäs – long-termism, sustainability and resource awareness – the collection presented here fulfils pent-up needs and creates new perspectives.

Åke Axelsson renews a tradition with the Sonat armchair
Interior architect and designer, Åke Axelsson, launches the Sonat armchair, appropriate for many kinds of environments thanks to its universal character. Besides being stackable, Sonat is also linkable, sound absorbent and, if required, comes with a brass number plate.
Åke Axelsson:
“Today the demand for flexible use is greater than ever, meaning that the Sonat armchair is even easier to stack. As always, I strive to make the chair as light as possible, without compromising comfort and strength. In appearance, Sonat is softer in form. The wood is beech because it is strong, hard and firm in structure. It can also be bent into shape better than other kinds of wood.”

David Regestam’s Tak series of tables complements the collection
This new series of tables is designed by David Regestam and practically comes in all sizes and types. That means round, square or rectangular, in different sizes and heights, four-legged or pedestal table, and can be ordered in lengths as long as you like. The tables suit many types of interiors and offer endless variation. The common denominator for the tables in the series is their straight, functional design with exposed details in the joints. The first delivery of tables is going to a new rooftop restaurant and bar in central Stockholm called TAK, (Tak means roof in Swedish). The restaurant is designed by Wingårdh Arkitektkontor where David Regestam works. The name is also appropriate because the tables are reminiscent of a roof construction: a thin layer on a steady frame.

Pierre Sindre introduces the Dandy easy chair
Designer Pierre Sindre is behind several Gärsnäs bestsellers for public spaces. This time he has been inspired by his own sensations of pleasure and created the Dandy. A broad and sit-friendly easy chair with a high rattan back that creates seclusion without feeling closed in. Dandy is a lovely easy chair, made for rest and contemplation, and manufactured with natural materials: rattan, Tärnsjö leather and oak. Stylistically, Dandy lends from fashion in the 60s and for a long time the working name was Steve McQueen considering the actor’s self-assured sense of high quality and just the right amount of nonchalant style.

TAF Arkitektkontor offers a fresh look with the Bleck sofa and easy chair
TAF Arkitekter/Gabriella Gustafson and Mattias Ståhlbom have designed the neat, low and versatile Bleck sofa and easy chair. Inspiration came from studying the construction of the reverse sides of oil paintings. The stretcher frame has a triangular brace, which is called bleck in Swedish. By also using such a brace for functionality and decor, TAF have worked deliberately to make the sofa and easy chair just as attractive from the back as the front. Since the carefully worked back doesn’t need to be hidden against a wall, there is greater freedom in how to furnish a space. Additionally, it gives a more cultivated feeling, looks more attentive and creates spatiality.
